The Academic Career Visualizer is a tool that allows one to literally ‘see’ a career in abstract form. The graph above shows the shape of a fictitious career with the white boxes, whereas the red line shows the persona’s publication production. It provides fewer details than a CV or a portfolio, but it is much easier to see historical development and could be a graphical interface or navigation tool to find specific details. The visualizer could serve analytical purposes in research into academic careers, but also have (self-) evaluation purposes (see also the ACUMEN project that lead me to this idea) or be applied in human-resources management.
These and the following pages will bring you up to speed about my attempts to visualize academic careers in an automated way.
You can download a Beta version of the tool that I am developing and read how to use it in these pages. More support may be available or become available soon.
